We Handle the Heavy Lifting
Our fleet of flatbed trucks and experienced crew can pick up or deliver lumber anywhere in the Greater Los Angeles area. From a single beam to a full truckload, we have the equipment and expertise to move your wood safely.
Lumber transportation requires specialized knowledge. Improper loading can damage valuable reclaimed wood, and unsecured loads create safety hazards on LA freeways. Our team has moved over 2 million board feet across Southern California, and every load is secured, insured, and delivered with care.
We handle everything from small residential pickups in tight Hollywood Hills driveways to multi-truck commercial deliveries at active construction sites. Our drivers know LA traffic patterns, restricted delivery zones, and parking regulations so your material arrives on time and without hassle.
Pickup Service
We come to you. Our crew handles loading from demolition sites, job sites, and private properties. We bring the right equipment for every situation, whether it is a backyard cleanup or a multi-story commercial teardown.
Delivery Service
Direct delivery to your project site with forklift offloading capability. We can stage material exactly where you need it, including upper floors with crane assistance for downtown high-rise projects.
Eco Fleet
Our vehicles run on biodiesel and hybrid powertrains. Even our logistics are green. We offset 100% of our fleet emissions through verified carbon credits and route optimization to minimize fuel consumption.
Insurance & Care
Full cargo insurance up to $250,000 per load and professional handling to protect your valuable lumber. Every piece is wrapped, strapped, or crated as appropriate for its value and fragility.
Service Area
We service all of Greater Los Angeles including:
Extended delivery areas available for larger orders. We also serve Ventura County, Orange County, Riverside, and San Bernardino with advance scheduling.
Commercial vs. Residential Delivery
We serve both commercial job sites and residential properties throughout Los Angeles. Each type of delivery has unique requirements, and we tailor our approach accordingly.

Packaging & Protection During Transport
Reclaimed lumber is often irreplaceable. A century-old heart pine beam or a hand-hewn barn timber cannot simply be reordered. We treat every piece with the care it deserves throughout the transportation process.
Corner Protectors
Heavy-duty cardboard and foam corner guards are placed on all exposed edges of premium and select-grade lumber. This prevents dings, dents, and surface damage during loading, transit, and unloading. We use recycled materials for our corner protectors wherever possible.
Stretch Wrapping
Bundles of milled lumber, flooring, and paneling are wrapped in industrial stretch film to keep pieces together and protect surfaces from scuffing. For high-value hardwoods, we use VCI (vapor corrosion inhibitor) film that also prevents moisture-related staining.
Custom Crating
For exceptionally valuable or fragile pieces — antique beams, live-edge slabs, and custom-milled orders — we build custom wooden crates at our facility. The lumber is secured within the crate with foam blocking and bracing to prevent any movement during transit.
Weather Tarping
All open-bed loads are tarped if there is any chance of rain or if the load will be in transit for more than 30 minutes. Our heavy-duty vinyl tarps are UV-resistant and waterproof, and they are secured at multiple points to prevent flapping and shift during highway transport.
Stickering & Spacing
Lumber stacked on our trucks is separated by stickers (thin wooden spacers) placed every 4 feet to allow airflow and prevent moisture trapping between boards. This is especially important for kiln-dried lumber that could reabsorb moisture if stacked tightly.
Ratchet Strap Systems
Every load is secured with rated ratchet straps at intervals no greater than 5 feet. We use edge protectors under every strap to distribute pressure evenly and prevent strap marks on finished surfaces. All straps are inspected before each use and replaced at the first sign of wear.
Blanket Wrapping
Moving blankets are used for finished pieces, live-edge slabs with delicate bark edges, and any lumber with special surface treatments. Double-blanket protection is standard for pieces valued over $500. Blankets are laundered between uses.
Load Documentation
Every load is photographed before departure and upon arrival. We document the count, species, dimensions, and condition of every piece. This photographic record protects both you and us and provides documentation for insurance purposes if ever needed.

Jobsite Delivery Tips
A little preparation on your end ensures the smoothest possible delivery. Here are our recommendations for getting your site ready.
Clear the Path
Ensure there is a clear route from the street to your lumber staging area. Move vehicles, equipment, and debris out of the path. Our trucks need a minimum 10-foot width for flatbed access and 14-foot overhead clearance.
Designate a Staging Area
Choose a flat, dry area where lumber can be unloaded and stored temporarily. Ideally, this should be close to where the material will be used. Avoid placement on soft ground, slopes, or areas prone to standing water.
Have Someone On Site
Designate a point person who can direct our driver, sign delivery receipts, and inspect the material upon arrival. This person should have authority to accept or reject the delivery and know where material should be placed.
Check Overhead Clearance
If your delivery location is under power lines, tree canopy, or building overhangs, verify clearance. Our boom trucks need 25-60 feet of overhead clearance depending on the reach required. Let us know in advance about any restrictions.
Prepare for Storage
Have stickers, cinder blocks, or pallets ready if you need to store lumber outdoors. Material should be elevated off the ground at least 4 inches and covered with a breathable tarp. We can advise on proper stacking for your specific species.
Communicate Access Codes
Share all gate codes, key card information, and security contacts with us before the delivery date. Our drivers carry a summary sheet with every delivery. Nothing delays a delivery faster than a locked gate and an unreachable contact.
Note Any Weight Limits
Some residential driveways, parking structures, and bridge overpasses have weight limits. A loaded flatbed truck weighs 20,000-30,000 lbs. Let us know about any weight restrictions so we can select the appropriate vehicle.
Plan for Weather
If rain is forecast, have tarps or covered storage ready at the delivery site. While we tarp loads in transit, lumber is exposed during unloading. If conditions are severe, we will coordinate with you to reschedule at no charge.
Inspect Upon Arrival
Check your material as it is being unloaded. Verify species, dimensions, quantity, and condition against your order. Our driver carries a delivery manifest. Noting any discrepancies immediately allows us to resolve issues on the spot.
Professional Transport vs. DIY
Thinking about hauling lumber yourself? Here is how our professional service compares.
| Factor | LA Lumber Transport | Rent a Truck (DIY) | General Freight Co. |
|---|---|---|---|
| Lumber-Specific Equipment | Flatbeds, lumber forks, straps | Generic cargo van/truck | Enclosed trailer (no lumber specialization) |
| Loading/Unloading | Included (crew + forklift) | You do it yourself | Liftgate only, no lumber handling |

| Insurance Coverage | Full cargo insurance to $250K | Your auto insurance only | Basic freight coverage |
| Delivery Precision | Placed where you need it | Curbside at best | Dock or curbside only |
| Long Lumber (12ft+) | No problem, proper overhang flags | Dangerous, often impossible | Usually not accepted |
| Heavy Timbers (500+ lbs) | Forklift and boom truck ready | Cannot handle safely | Limited capability |
| Scheduling Flexibility | Same-day to scheduled | Depends on truck rental availability | 3-7 day lead time |
| Your Time Investment | Zero - we handle everything | 4-8 hours minimum | 1-2 hours coordination |
| Cost (typical local run) | $95 - $195 | $80 - $200 (truck + fuel + time) | $200 - $500 |
Transportation Case Studies
A few examples of the transportation challenges we have solved for our clients.
Malibu Beachfront Renovation
Challenge
Deliver 2,800 board feet of reclaimed Douglas fir beams to a hillside property accessible only by a narrow, winding private road with a 15% grade. No room for a semi, and no forklift access on site.
Solution
Used our F-350 with extended lumber rack for three shuttle runs from PCH staging area. Boom truck placed the heaviest timbers (800+ lbs each) over the retaining wall directly onto the second-floor deck.
Result
All material delivered in one day with zero damage. The contractor saved two days of manual carrying time.
Downtown LA Restaurant Chain
Challenge
Supply and deliver reclaimed barn wood to three restaurant locations across downtown LA over a two-week period. Each location had a 30-minute street parking window and no loading dock.
Solution
Pre-staged material in delivery-ready bundles at our yard. Scheduled early-morning deliveries (5:30 AM) to avoid traffic and parking restrictions. Two-person crew hand-carried bundles into each space.
Result
All three locations received their materials on schedule. Staggered delivery aligned with the construction timeline at each site.
Pasadena Warehouse Salvage
Challenge
Pick up 12,000 board feet of heavy industrial timbers (8x12 and 10x10 beams) from a 1940s warehouse being demolished. Material on second floor, no elevator, building slated for teardown in 5 days.
Solution
Mobilized a three-truck team with a mobile crane. Crane lifted timbers through second-floor window openings directly onto flatbed trucks. Two-day operation completed ahead of demolition schedule.
Result
All 12,000 board feet recovered safely. The demolition contractor saved on disposal costs, and we acquired premium old-growth fir timbers.
Venice Canal Home Remodel
Challenge
Deliver 1,500 board feet of reclaimed white oak flooring to a narrow canal-side home with no driveway. The only access was a 6-foot-wide pedestrian walkway running 200 feet from the nearest street.
Solution
Used our pickup truck to stage material at the street end. A two-person crew hand-carried pre-bundled flooring packs (80 lbs each) along the walkway using specialized lumber dollies. Twelve trips completed the delivery.
Result
All flooring delivered undamaged in under three hours. The homeowner avoided weeks of delays trying to coordinate an alternative delivery method.
Silver Lake Mixed-Use Development
Challenge
Supply reclaimed timber accents for a 5-story mixed-use building during active construction. Deliveries needed to occur during a 90-minute window each morning before other trades arrived on site.
Solution
Established a weekly standing delivery schedule coordinated with the general contractor. Pre-loaded trucks departed our yard at 4:45 AM each Tuesday. Boom truck placed material on each floor per the architect specifications.
Result
Eight consecutive weekly deliveries completed on time with zero conflicts with other trades. The project finished ahead of schedule.
Topanga Canyon Barn Conversion
Challenge
Transport 6,000 board feet of mixed reclaimed hardwoods up a steep, unpaved mountain road with sharp switchbacks. Standard flatbed trucks could not navigate the final mile of road.
Solution
Staged a semi trailer at a flat turnout at the base of the mountain. Transferred lumber to our F-350 and made shuttle runs up the hill over two days. Used our knuckle boom truck for the heaviest timbers.
Result
Complete delivery accomplished over two days with no damage despite challenging terrain. The property owner had been told by two other companies that delivery was impossible.
Safety & Compliance
Our transportation operations meet or exceed all federal, state, and local regulations for commercial hauling in California.
DOT Compliant
All commercial vehicles are registered with the Department of Transportation and undergo regular inspections. Our drivers hold valid CDL licenses with clean driving records and complete annual safety training.
Load Securement
Every load is secured per FMCSA regulations (49 CFR 393). We use rated straps, chains, and blocking appropriate for the lumber type and quantity. Oversized loads receive flagging, wide-load signage, and pilot car escort when required.
Cal/OSHA Compliance
Our crews follow California OSHA guidelines for material handling, including proper lifting techniques, PPE requirements, and fall protection for elevated loading and unloading operations.
Cargo Insurance
Every load is covered by our commercial cargo insurance policy up to $250,000. For higher-value shipments of specialty or antique lumber, we can arrange additional coverage through our broker.
Environmental Standards
Our fleet meets CARB (California Air Resources Board) emissions standards. We use biodiesel blends where possible and optimize routes to minimize fuel consumption and emissions per load.
Site Safety
Our drivers carry PPE (hard hats, steel-toed boots, safety vests, gloves) and are trained in job site safety protocols. We coordinate with site supervisors before entering active construction zones.
What Our Clients Say
“Their delivery team is the most professional I have worked with. They showed up exactly when they said they would, had the forklift ready, and placed 4,000 board feet of oak exactly where we needed it in the garage. No scratches, no drama.”
Carlos M.
General Contractor, Glendale
“I was worried about getting heavy beams up to my hillside property. Their boom truck operator placed each beam through the second-floor balcony opening like it was nothing. Saved us three days of manual labor.”
Lisa W.
Homeowner, Pacific Palisades
“We use their weekly delivery service for our furniture workshop. They know our schedule, our unloading dock, and exactly how we like the material staged. It is like having our own fleet without the overhead.”
James & Nora P.
Custom Furniture Studio, Arts District
“The driver navigated our tiny Silver Lake street without hitting a single parked car, then hand-carried 800 board feet of walnut into my shop through a 36-inch doorway. These guys are artists at what they do.”
David K.
Woodworker, Silver Lake
“We had a last-minute change and needed material redirected to a different site across town. One call and they rerouted the truck mid-delivery. That kind of flexibility is priceless when you are managing multiple projects.”
Angela R.
Interior Designer, West Hollywood
“They picked up an entire barn worth of reclaimed redwood from my property in Topanga. Three trucks, a crane, and five guys — they had everything cleared out in a single day. Professional from start to finish.”
Michael S.
Property Owner, Topanga Canyon
Loading & Unloading Services
Unlike many lumber delivery services, loading and unloading are always included in our pricing. Our two-person crews handle every aspect of material movement so you and your team can focus on building.
Forklift Offloading
Our truck-mounted forklifts can offload palletized lumber, bundled flooring, and heavy timbers without requiring any equipment on your end. The operator places material at the staging area you designate. Pneumatic tires allow operation on gravel, dirt, and rough terrain common at construction sites.
Boom Truck Placement
When material needs to go over a fence, wall, or onto an elevated surface, our articulating boom trucks place lumber exactly where it is needed. This eliminates the cost and coordination of hiring a separate crane. Our operators can set individual timbers or lift entire bundles up to 8,000 lbs.
Hand Carry Service
For interior deliveries, narrow access points, and locations where mechanical equipment cannot reach, our two-person crew will hand-carry material to its final location. We use lumber dollies, shoulder pads, and proper lifting technique to move material through doorways, hallways, and up staircases safely.
Demolition Site Loading
Picking up lumber from demolition and renovation sites requires a different skill set than standard delivery. Our crews are experienced at extracting material from active demo environments, sorting salvageable lumber on site, and loading efficiently to minimize your project downtime.
