What Affects Lumber Pricing?
Species & Rarity
Old-growth redwood and black walnut command premium prices due to scarcity. Common species like pine and fir are more affordable but still valuable when reclaimed.
Grade & Condition
Clean, straight lumber with minimal defects grades higher. Structural-grade beams are worth more than nail-pocked framing. Character marks can add or reduce value depending on the intended use.
Dimensions
Wider and longer boards are rarer and more valuable. Timbers over 8x8 inches and boards over 12 inches wide carry a premium. Standard dimensional lumber (2x4, 2x6) is priced competitively.
Volume & Quantity
Bulk orders receive automatic discounts. Contractors ordering 500+ board feet save 10-15%. Truckload orders (2,000+ board feet) receive our best per-foot pricing.
Processing Level
Rough-sawn lumber is priced lower. Planing, sanding, tongue-and-groove milling, and kiln drying add value. Fully finished boards cost more but save you time and equipment.
Provenance & History
Documented origin stories add value. Lumber from historic LA buildings, notable structures, or verified old-growth forests carries a premium for clients who value authenticity.
Volume & Bulk Orders
Whether you are a general contractor, interior designer, or furniture maker, our bulk pricing tiers are designed to make reclaimed lumber cost-effective for projects of any scale.

Environmental Impact
Every board foot of reclaimed lumber you buy or sell through us is a board foot that does not end up in a landfill and does not require a new tree to be harvested. The environmental benefits are significant and measurable.
Wood in landfills decomposes anaerobically, producing methane, a greenhouse gas 80 times more potent than CO2 over a 20-year period. By diverting wood from landfills, we prevent these emissions while preserving the carbon already sequestered in the timber.
Reclaimed lumber also eliminates the energy-intensive processes of logging, transporting raw timber, and operating sawmills. Studies show that reclaimed wood uses approximately 13 times less energy than harvesting and processing virgin lumber.

Safety & Compliance
We take safety and regulatory compliance seriously at every stage of the buy-sell process.
Lead Paint Testing
All lumber sourced from pre-1978 structures is tested for lead paint. Contaminated material is safely separated and disposed of according to EPA and Cal/OSHA regulations. We never sell lead-contaminated wood.
Metal Detection
Every piece passes through industrial metal detectors to find hidden nails, screws, bolts, and other fasteners. This protects your equipment and ensures clean, safe material for your projects.
Pest Inspection
Incoming lumber is inspected for termites, powder post beetles, and other wood-boring insects. Infested material is either heat-treated to eliminate pests or rejected from our inventory.
Moisture Content
We measure and document moisture content using calibrated pin-type meters. Air-dried material is stickered and stored properly. Kiln drying is available to bring moisture below 8% for interior use.
Chemical Treatment Screening
We screen for CCA (chromated copper arsenate), creosote, and other chemical treatments. Treated lumber is labeled clearly and only sold for appropriate applications, never for food contact or indoor use.
Certified Grading
Our graders follow National Hardwood Lumber Association (NHLA) standards. Structural lumber is assessed per ASTM guidelines. You receive documentation of grade and species with every order.
