Project Story
A 1920s hillside bungalow in Silver Lake needed structural stiffening and historic-appropriate finishes after years of piecemeal repairs.
We supplied old-growth Douglas fir flooring and trim, denailed and milled to match original Craftsman-era profiles.
White oak beams from a decommissioned warehouse became exposed ceiling members in the living room and kitchen.
Custom white oak shelving ties the kitchen to the living space, echoing the beam material and tone.
The project retained the home’s historic feel while upgrading structure, insulation, and finishes for modern living.
Before & After
BBefore
The bungalow had laminate over soft subfloors, mismatched trim, and boxed-in ceiling joists. Original character had been lost under quick fixes.
AAfter
Refinished spaces now showcase Douglas fir floors and trim, exposed white oak beams, and cohesive shelving—restoring Craftsman warmth with authentic materials.

Solution
Planed beams to 6x7 nominal and notched framing to recess for headroom.
Challenge
Maintaining historic profiles.
Solution
Copied remaining original trim and matched milling knives for accurate reproduction.
“The fir floors and oak beams make the house feel original again. Neighbors think we uncovered originals, not added new pieces.”
